Samus (Dark Samus)

  • A Silent Bounty Hunter
  • A Ranged Character
  • Medium weight

Samus is best suited for players looking for a ranged character.

Why Samus?

Samus is yet another great character for beginners–just point and shoot.

She is a popular Nintendo icon garbed in a metal suit with an arm cannon attached.

Sounds cool, doesn’t it? It is!

But, what does Samus’s arm cannon mean for you? It means her moves are great if you are looking to attack from long distances while remaining out of the fray.

Weight Matters

Samus is a medium weight character that does not get launched as often as lighter characters. This is due to the heavy armor she wears to protect her from danger.

The lone bounty hunter can suffer basic attack and even some strong blows at low damages before having to worry about being knocked off a stage.

Her sturdiness will keep you in the battle for as long as you are capable.

Attack Power

Luckily, Samus is highly capable at attacking from a distance. She is primarily a ranged fighter, after all.

She can send projectiles soaring at her foes to amass damage over time.

If this sounds like fun to you, you will enjoy playing as this heroic heroine.

How To Play As Samus

If you choose Samus, you will want to rely on 4 main pillars of combat: shoot, charge, grab, and smash.

  • You will do most of your damage as Samus by firing shots from your arm cannon by pressing the special attack button.
  • Pressing this button will cause Samus to fire balls of energy in the direction she is facing. Use this tactic to send standard energy blasts at your opponent to hurt your foes from afar.
  • You can also charge your arm cannon blast before firing. The longer you charge your blast, the bigger and stronger the energy ball will be when you do decide to unleash it on unsuspecting prey.
  • I usually charge my arm cannon blast and save it for later use. This way, I can pick just the right time to unleash an epic blast so it is harder for my opponent to telegraph.
  • Rely on shooting and charge shooting to do a bunch of damage from afar. Then, grab your opponent and bring them in close for a beating.
  • About Samu’s grab: it is a grappling beam that has long range. She grabs from a distance, making her a good choice for beginners that are afraid of close combat.
  • Connecting with her grappling beam will drag your foe to you. Follow up with standard attacks or throw your opponent in the direction of your choosing.
  • Finally, Samus is prepared for hand-to-hand combat if the need arises. Let your opponents come to you and finish them off with a strong smash attack.
  • A smash attack is a heavy hitting standard punch or kick that will surely do damage to anyone in the way. Using one may even help you win the game.
  • Rack up damage from long distances then grab or smash attack your way to victory.

Combine these techniques together in order to score a win with Samus if you are a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate beginner.

How NOT To Play As Samus

Never enter a battle thinking Samus is going to hit hard.

Her punches and kicks are strong enough but pale in comparison to heavier character’s attacks. Instead, rack up damage from afar if you can and make sure to keep moving.

But be aware, Samus may move fast on ground but she is also a lot more floaty in the air.

This means she will remaining in the air longer, making her vulnerable to ground attacks and oncoming blows.

Finally, grab only when you know you will connect with Samus’ grapple beam. If you miss the grab, Samus will be open to attack for a short period of time.

Simon image small

Simon Belmont (Richter Belmont)

  • A Vampire Killer
  • A Ranged Character
  • Medium weight

Simon is best suited for players looking for a ranged fighter.

Why Simon Belmont?

Simon is the perfect character for beginners due to his array of ranged attacks that keep foes at bay.

Pick Simon if you are not as comfortable getting within close range of frightening foes.

Simon, the most iconic character from the long running Castlevania video game series, is a vampire hunter and he brings all of his iconic tools to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Not only will these tools keep Dracula at a distance, they will keep your opponents away if used correctly.

Weight Matters

Being medium weight, Simon is sturdy enough to take a few hits before being launched off of the screen.

Do not be afraid if you get hit once, twice, or even thrice as Simon. You can always keep tossing Simon’s ranged weapons as long as you are still standing.

Attack Power

Simon relies on his slew of special moves, along with his trusty whip, to rack up damage.

  • You will find a lot of fun in striking foes from a distance with your arsenal of projectiles and long-range whip.

Although not the heaviest of hitters or damage dealers, Simon’s constant barrage of attacks will keep your foe’s damage percentages climbing through the roof.

How To Play As Simon Belmont

If you choose Simon, you will want to rely on 4 main pillars of combat: whip, holy water, axe, and cross.

  • Simon’s most trusted weapon is his whip and for good reason. It packs a punch and has tremendous range.
  • Use your standard whip attacks to hit enemies from afar, keep them from approaching, and to rack up damage without entering an opponent’s personal space.
  • This is a great way to neutralize threats and deal damage to melee characters. With Simon, you can avoid getting up close and personal with close-range combatants with basic attacks.
  • Keep foes away, and guessing, by adding Simon’s three projectiles moves to your fighting strategy.
  • Simon’s cross is thrown straight forward and returns like a boomerang, his holy water is tossed on the ground with an explosion, and his axe is tossed upward in an arch.
  • Using all three of these special moves in succession will create a barrage of projectiles that will be hard to avoid.
  • Think about it: start by using your whip to rack up quick damage and to keep your opponent at bay then toss an upward arching axe, then a straight forward cross, and finally a ground exploding holy water.
  • The high, middle, and low grounds are all being targeted just by using Simon’s array of special moves one after the next.
  • Mix up the order of your projectiles to catch your opponents off guard and to keep them guessing.
  • Start with a whip or a holy water toss your first time then perhaps an axe or cross throw the next.
  • Whatever attack you decided to lead with, you can rest assured you will be inflicting damage at a safe distance while minimizing the amount of damage done to you in return.

Combine these techniques together in order to score a win with Simon Belmont if you are a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate beginner.

How NOT To Play As Simon Belmont

Close quarters combat is not Simon’s strong point, so keep at a distance the best you can.

Utilize Simon’s small size and various projectiles to keep threats away.

Also, Simon lacks speed faster characters possess. This can be seen in almost every attack he performs.

It would be wise not to enter battle thinking you will be able to pull off lightning speed attacks or be able to go toe to toe with speedier characters.

Apply a ranged strategy that relies primarily on fighting from a distance and couple it with smart instances of melee combat only when necessary to score a victory.

marth image small

Marth (Lucina)

  • A Heroic Prince
  • A Sword Wielding Character
  • Medium weight

Marth is best suited for players looking for a fast, close ranged character.

Why Marth?

Marth is the perfect character for beginners looking for a fast, nimble, and aggressive fighter.

The heroic prince is a speedy sword fighter meant to deal tons of damage at close range.

If that sounds like fun, then Marth is the fighter for you.

Weight Matters

Marth is a lighter character for his size.

  • This means that you will have to be cautious when getting into combat, something you will be doing a lot with Marth.
  • He can be easily sent flying which can lead to follow-up attacks from your enemies.

Understanding Marth’s weight disadvantage will help you to utilize his quick movement speed and attack speed to your advantage.

Attack Power

Marth is a sword class fighter which means he uses a sword to attack foes.

He can deal damage from close to medium-close range, allowing you to rack up damage quickly with his lighting fast slash attacks.

How To Play As Marth

If you choose Marth, you will want to rely on 4 main pillars of combat: attack, grab, move, and attack some more.

  • Marth is all about doing as much damage as you can as fast as you can.
  • When you play as Marth, think of yourself as a homing torpedo constantly trying to get as close to your opponent as possible.
  • This swordsman is all about approaching the battle.
  • Attack your opponent head-on with Marth’s many normal attacks and various sword related special moves.
  • Unleash a flurry of hits in a row to prevent your foe an opening to strike back. This is how you will rack up damage as Marth.
  • Don’t fret if you launch your opponent into the air. Instead, follow your launched opponent wherever they go and attack head-on.
  • Not comfortable chasing after a flying foe? No problem. Marth is full of options.
  • Simply position yourself where you think your opponent will land and prepare an attack when they get there.
  • No matter what you choose, remember that movement is key when playing as Marth.
  • His speed is an asset that can be utilized to help you strike first and faster than others on the battlefield.
  • Overwhelm other fighters with quick attacks and quick footwork, then move onto surprising your foes with a sudden grab attack.
  • Throw your foe in whatever direction you choose or grab and then pound your foe with a barrage of punches before letting them loose.

Combine these techniques together in order to score a win with Marth if you are a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate beginner.

How NOT To Play As Marth

Staying still means the death for Marth due to his lighter weight.

Keep moving and allow some distance from your opponent at all times until you find an opening to attack.

Keeping your distance will ensure you will take less damage over time from hand-to-hand fighters while giving you enough time to react to oncoming blows.

Once you spot a moment to attack, do so then follow your foe until you send your adversary soaring off the screen.
