Overall, popular Nintendo Switch games returned to the top of Amazon’s best sellers list with niche and smaller games being removed. The rankings seemed to normalize this month due to there not being any huge game sales.
Enjoy key highlights from this month’s best selling Nintendo Switch games on Amazon I thought were noteworthy.
A New Game Takes First Place
The physical edition of The Oregon Trail is the best selling Nintendo Switch game of August 2024. That is really cool to see.
If you do not know, The Oregon Trail was a hugely popular education-survival game originally made in the 1970s about the trials and tribulations of the long trek across the Oregon trail (a 2,000 mile plus mile route that exists in real life).
Everyone I knew growing up played the game because schools considered it an education software and installed it on classroom computers.
My spouse and I both have fond memories of The Oregon Trail. The Nintendo Switch version is a modernized rendition of the game with stellar visuals and gameplay.
I highly recommend this iteration if you enjoy survival games or if you have never experienced playing the game.
Popular Titles Moved Back Up The List
Popular Nintendo Switch titles that consistently sell well (known as “evergreen” titles) returned to the top of this month’s ranking and included the following games:
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
- Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
- Mario Party Superstars
These Nintendo Switch titles continue to perform well and for good reason. They are all quality games.
I have spent a few hundreds hours in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and I still have more to do in each game.
And I simply adored the strategic gameplay of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and its predecessor, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.
As always, there is something to enjoy for every type of gamer on Nintendo Switch.

Multiplayer Nintendo Switch Games For Families
If you are looking for Nintendo Switch family fun, I suggest getting the multiplayer board game Mario Party Superstars, the dancing game Just Dance 2023, or the workout sports motion game Nintendo Switch Sports.
All three games support up to 4 players or more and have an Everyone or Everyone 10+ game rating.
Just Dance and Nintendo Switch Sports get a lot of love in our house as I adore games that require a physical workout but are a joy to play.
Single Player Nintendo Switch Games For Adults
For best selling Nintendo Switch games for adults, I the suggest mature-rated Metal Gear Solid stealth action game classic collection, the epic single-player fantasy adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and its sequel Tears of the Kingdom, or the comedic yet challenging role playing game Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
All of these games are great picks for adults looking for deep gameplay sessions, mature oriented themes, and/or adult humor.
My spouse and I love to just roam around in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom after a long work day.
