Why You Should Play Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution?

Yu-Gi-Oh! was one of my favorite card games as a kid, and I am glad a video game version is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch.

If you don’t know what Yu-Gi-Oh! is, it is a long running and hugely popular anime show about a card game of monsters, dragons, and spells.

Cool stuff! And of course there are heroes to root for and villains to despise.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution specifically covers the entirety of the anime series up until 2019 in its story mode and allows for both single and multiplayer gameplay (which is a must for a multiplayer card game).

The last Yu-Gi-Oh! video game I played was for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance which had maybe 1,000 cards at best if my memory serves correct.

This game, though? It includes over 9,000 cards, an updated play area, updated terminology, and many of the characters from the various Yu-Gi-Oh! seasons.

But don’t fret.

The developers of the game have said the story mode provides tutorials, information, and cards at a steady pace as not to overwhelm newcomers  or fans that have drifted away from the series (such as myself). This is definitely my most anticipated game of the month by far.

Get ready to duel with Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution and clear 1.4GB of space for this single and multiplayer digital card game.

ONINAKI

Why You Should Play Oninaki?

Oninaki is a brand new game from role playing game veterans at Square Enix (the creators of the popular Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest series).

And it is developed by the developers of I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear, two other modern day role playing gems.

I have always adored Square Enix’s role playing games because I enjoy being transported to a fantasy realm full of monsters and magic.

And Oninaki hits all of these hard.

The game is set in a fantasy realm about a “Watcher’s” journey to protect Life after Death.

Combat is flashy, fast paced, action oriented, and carried out in real time–this means that with every button you press, your character will slash his sword and strike any enemies your battling.

The game is also heavily story-driven with text, voice overs, and characters with depth to get behind, care about, and root for.

All of this is presented with unique almost watercolor, hand drawn, cartoon inspired visuals that will be sure to catch your eye as it has done mine.

ASTRAL CHAIN

Why You Should Play Astral Chain?

Oh, boy! I have been waiting for this one. August ends with a bang.

An action packed bang in the from of Astral Chain, a big-budget action game published by Nintendo itself and developed by acclaimed developers at Platinum Games (creators of the Bayonetta series, also on Nintendo Switch, among many other fast-paced games).

Astral Chain oozes production value which is a great thing. The game looks like quality and is prepared to serve a giant story ripe with intrigue and exciting combat.

Humanity is fighting inter-dimensional aliens and teams up with a living weapon called Legion to stop the the alien invaders.

The game has a futuristic setting which you may love or hate as well as a heavily anime inspired (yet realistically proportioned) character designs.

But, the combat is what attracted me the most to this game.

It is fast paced action at its finest with quick button presses equating to a flurry of moves on-screen that look like a brutal but beautiful dance.

The game promises to let players control two characters at once in which it has termed “Synergistic Action”.

Combos will look stylish as players use a variety of different Legion to fit each scenario.

I, for one, am looking forward to trying out a variety of the living weapons to find the best ones that works for me and my play style.

The game also allows players to pick their character’s gender, skin color, and hair as well as other customization features.

This is a great feature for those looking to personalize their gaming experience.

Astral Chain requires 9.6GB of storage space for its promising gameplay experience that is primarily a single player game.

Tetris 99

Why You Should Play Tetris 99?

Tetris 99 already launched on Nintendo Switch, and I raved about it in my review that I highly recommend you read.

Tetris 99 is “battle royale” Tetris, a form of the popular puzzle game that pits you versus 98 other players in an online death-match arena.

Only one can win, will it be you?

Most of the times, it won’t be–unless you are a Tetris pro. But, that only makes this game more fun as starting a new match only takes seconds.

This game is a blast to play. “Just one more game” is the mantra here, and you may find yourself saying this for hours on end. Just don’t forget to sleep.

The physical edition of Tetris 99 releases in September 2019 and comes with 12 months of the Nintendo Switch Online Subscription (NSOS).

You will need the NSOS to play this game. If you already are a subscriber, the game is free to download. Yup, free!

The physical version comes packed with an offline mode as well, whereas the offline mode is a paid add-on for the free digital version, for your information.

Just make sure you have about 250MB of storage before you download.

Tetris 99 is one of my top 10 games on Nintendo Switch, so I hope you enjoy the physical or digital version of this gem just as much as I have.

DAEMON X MACHINA

Why You Should Play Daemon X Machina?

Daemon X Machina is a brand new concept about fighting corrupted artificial intelligence with big mechanical robots.

Yup. Take control of giant battle suits that are highly customizable, from their weapons to their paint job, and take part in varying missions to rage ware with enemy battle suits.

I played a bunch of the demo on the Nintendo eShop and came away impressed.

This game has a unique look and combines anime inspired designs with a barren, sci-fi landscape.

I also enjoyed the deep customization options available. Battle suits can be equipped with arm and shoulder weapons along with an additional reserve weapon.

All of which can be changed to the player’s liking.

And I also enjoyed flying around the game world, taking shots at distant enemies, landing, destroying my foes, and stealing ammo and weapons from those who opposed me.

This game just makes ya feel powerful, you know?

If you enjoy robot battle games, give Daemon X Machnia a go when it releases this month.

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

Why You Should Play The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening?

You must play this game! The end.

Seriously, this is a remake of the classic GameBoy game by the same name that released over 25 years ago.

And that game was super fun then and it remains super fun now.

This is tried-and-true Zelda gameplay at its best with a lot of charm and unique elements I do not want to spoil here.

Let’s just say you will stumble upon a handful of recognizable cameos if you are a seasoned Nintendo fan.

The original Link’s Awakening was my very first GameBoy game so I hold this entry near and dear to my heart.

The music is enchanting and memorable, the game world is an interconnected joy to traverse, and the world is filed with oddball characters that only a Zelda game can pull off.

Enjoy exploring dungeons, collecting musical instruments, and fighting bosses in this charming remake.

This remake also includes new features such as a dungeon creator where we players can make and share our dungeons with other players online. Neat!

Finally, the visuals have been given an almost claymation-like overhaul that really makes this game standout in the modern era of video games.

Just look at the pictures. Stunning.

If you can’t tell, this game is my most sought after game in September.

So many memories.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Why You Should Play Ni No Kuni?

I missed out on Ni No Kuni when it originally released on the PlayStation 3 in 2010, but I won’t miss out on this much beloved gem on the Nintendo Switch.

And you shouldn’t either.

This is especially true if you are a fan of Level-5 ( the game’s developers), Studio Ghibli (the game’s visual style), and traditional role playing games.

Level-5 has created popular games such as the Professor Layton, Inazuma Eleven, and Yo-kai Watch series; Studio Ghibli has created world renowned anime such as Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and Howl’s Moving Castle.

The two forces came together to create Ni No Kuni, a game praised for its visuals, characters, and musical score.

Finally, this games is coming to a Nintendo platform.

Explore a fantasy world as Oliver who adventures to bring his mother back by teaming up with allies and fighting enemies in a treacherous world.

The gameplay is standard role playing fair where battles are fought with menus and monitoring your health and stats are vital to success.

Obtaining items, exploring a vast world, and navigating battles will be your fun for hours on end in Ni No Kuni.

Why You Should Play Ori And The Blind Forest?

Talk about surprises.

Ori and the Blind Forest is one of 2015’s best video game releases, and it is making its way to the Nintendo Switch in a all-ion-one definitive edition that includes dozens of new features.

But, that is not the surprising part.

This game is published by Microsoft and is a XBox and PC exclusive. Say what?!?

We officially live in a bizarre world when one of September’s top Nintendo releases is coming from its competitors.

But is is us gamers who reap the benefits and get to experience a true gem. So, thank you to Microsoft and Nintendo for playing well together.

Ori and the Blind Forest is a story about an orphan who must fight evil and find the courage to become a hero.

The game is an action game with platforming elements about traversal and exploring an interconnected fantasy world (think interconnected like Metroid and Castlevania games).

Obtaining new powers and abilities will open up new areas to explore so there will never be a dull moment.

The music has been applauded for its orchestrated quality, while the visual art style is simply beautiful: the game world backgrounds are hand painted and look like water color paintings of the highest caliber.

All in all, this game is stellar in all three major categories–gameplay, visuals, and music. What isn’t there to like?

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition

Why You Should Play Dragon Quest 11?

The Dragon Quest series is the granddaddy of all role playing games, and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition (man that is a long name!!!!) is the latest installment of a beloved franchise.

Dragon Quest 11 is an epic quest (pun intended) that can take hundreds of hours to complete.

The game’s demo alone–which can be downloaded now and its save file will work with the main game–includes the first 10 hours of the game.

That shouldn’t be called a demo, that is comparable to many full-sized games. I applaud you, Square Enix, for given us a meaty taste of what is to come.

After all, Dragon Quest 11 has a lot to offer.

Explore the fantasy world of Erdrea, take on quests, gain party members, acquire better and even better gear, ride mounts, and grow stronger as you take on countless enemies in traditional turn based battle (you take a turn to hit and then the monster gets a turn to attack).

Dragon Quest 11 for Nintendo Switch takes the original game that came out in 2017 and adds tons of new content, new to Nintendo’s release.

This Definitive Edition includes 2 separate graphic styles (2D and 3D), fully voiced events, a faster battle system option, additional monsters to ride, new equipment, a photo mode to take pictures, higher quality music, English and Japanese audio, extra quests that adds more story, and many more tweaks.

If you are new to Dragon Quest 11 or want the best way to play this game, this version is the way to go. Go ahead and grab the game later this month.

Why You Should Play Spirit Hunter: NG?

October gives us horror fans an excuse to celebrate spooky games all month long. And what better way to do that than with Spirit Hunter: NG, a supernatural tale.

This game plays out as a visual novel, where the bulk of the gameplay comes from reading dialogue, interacting with characters, visiting different environments, finding clues, and making decisions all within a slide-esque presentation perspective.

Yup. Prepare to read your way to spooky-ville in this game.

Luckily, the anime-inspired artwork is well drawn and grotesque: one scene you will come across shows a man with his eyes bulging, lying in his own blood.

This game is definitely for mature audiences only and will satisfy those looking for a horror game throughout the month of October.

The premise centers around searching for clues to find your missing sister while spirits roam the streets, the parks, and even your very own home. Shivers!

I love horror games so this sounds great to me. And perhaps Spirit Hunter: NG will sound great to you, too.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition

Why You Should Play The Witcher 3?

Looking for a mature oriented game to play after you finished The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? The Witcher 3 is the game for you.

This game tells a mature oriented, gripping tale set in a fantasy world where monsters are real.

The realistic visuals and voiced characters make the large open world come alive.

You’ll probably stop and enjoy the scenery from time to time as you should in large open games like this.

Speaking of large open worlds, this game has a large world that will make fans of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild feel at home.

Players will travel across bodies of water, fields, forests, and towns by foot, ship, and horseback from one quest or story event to another.

I want to play this game so much, and it make me feel overwhelmed in a good way to say that The Witcher 3 has over 150 hours of total content. That’s insane!

The Nintendo Switch version of The Witcher 3 is the complete edition that includes the base game and all extra content rolled into one package.

New quests, items, and story components previously released as extra content come standard in the Nintendo Switch release.

If you are looking for an action role playing game that takes you on a very long adventure with tons of content and side quests to accomplish (along with a gripping narrative), The Witcher 3 says hello.

I cannot wait for this game to launch in October, as it will be the perfect meaty game to play throughout the entire month.

Little Town Hero

Why You Should Play Little Town Hero?

If you are a fan of the Pokémon games, you might want to pick this up. Why?

Because, the Pokémon developers (Game Freak) are making this brand new game unrelated to Pokémon, and it is called Little Town Hero.

It is a role playing game with bright, colorful visuals set in a a single town. Yup. The entire game takes place in one isolated place.

The goal is to defend the town from approaching monsters in a most unique way.

You will have to use your thoughts to battle monsters and maneuver throughout the town during battle to get a helping hand from townsfolk. Each battle is challenging and can be won with thought, care, and planning.

The game was created with modern gamers in mind which means mindless grinding (playing a part over and over again just to get stronger) has been mitigated, while strategic battles have been spotlighted.

The story is fun and centers around a town protected by a castle that one day falls prey to monsters, creatures the townsfolk never knew existed.

Luckily, one brave boy stands in the monster’s way: the main character with a hair that resembles red flames.

And finally, the game’s soundtrack is done by Toby Fox, the creator of Undertale.

Yes. If you enjoyed Undertale’s soundtrack, you are in for a treat.

I love when Game Freak does something other than the Pokemon games, a rare occasion in deed.

And Little Town Hero looks to be a fun, role playing game from them that release real soon.

Ring Fit Adventure

Why You Should Play Ring Fit Adventure?

Look no further for the spiritual successor to Wii Fit. Evolved. HD.

And with an entire adventure attached.

Oh. And a new workout instrument to use, too.

Ring Fit Adventure uses the included Ring-Con and Leg Strap accessories to track your movements while playing the game.

So, whatever you do in the real world will be measured while playing.

A pair of Joy-Con is needed to play, but every original Nintendo Switch comes with a pair (Nintendo Lite owners may find playing this game a bit more difficult).

One Joy-Con slots into the Ring-Con while the other slots into the Leg Strap.

The Leg Strap is attached to your leg while the Ring -Con (a sturdy round workout band of sorts) is used to perform different moves, stretches, lifts, and exercises during gameplay.

But, what is Ring Fit Adventure all about?

It is a workout game set in a fantasy, role playing adventure world.

Moving throughout the colorful, detailed game world is done by walking or jogging in place. To get to some far off distance, be prepared to actually walk to get there (this is a workout game, after all).

Luckily, the game allows you to move at a pace that is comfortable to you so running is not required if you prefer to walk.

Jumping and performing blasts of air requires pressing in on the Ring-Con. Point the device at the ground, press in, and your character will jump when needed.

What’s that?!? A monster approaches!

Yes, you will battle monsters throughout this game by using the Ring-Con to perform 40 different offensive maneuvers.

Each move belongs to one of 4 categories of attacks and each category focuses on strengthening a certain body part.

You can get a workout by playing this game, that is for sure.

According to Nintendo, the game will take months to complete by playing 30 minutes a day. That’s a lot of gaming goodness!

But if you rather focus solely on working-out in a digital format while skipping the adventure mode, you can do that, too.

The game also includes multiple other game modes to help you complete a full body workout including a more traditional

Sets workout mode, Quick Play, and Minigames.

Don’t like the workouts pre-made for you?

You can also customize your workouts to your liking.

Oh. And Ring Fit Adventure also allows you to compare your high scores with online ranking boards.

I love workout games and this one looks to strike a nice balance between fun while providing actual workout results.

I cannot wait for this game to be released.

Mary Skelter 2

Why Should You Play Mary Skelter 2?

Mary Skelter 2 is too nightmarish not to include in this October guide.

This game is all about nightmares and Blood Maidens with the gameplay of dungeon crawling role playing games such as the Nintendo DS’s Etrian Odyssey series

Gameplay centers around interacting with characters, reading tons of text while some lines are voiced, traversing through dungeons from a first person perspective, and battling strange monsters from a first person perspective.

Of course, you can power up and equip your Battle Maidens as well as change their jobs so they can perform in battle just the way you want them to.

Party members also learn skills and increase in stats as game progression is made.

The battle system contains depth with monsters having weaknesses, the visuals are high quality and anime inspired, and the music fits each environment to create a well polished game.

I always enjoy a quirky Japanese role playing game form time to time, and this semi-horror themed game called Mary Skelter 2 fits the bill.

I am definitely keeping tabs on this gem.

If you are a fan of role playing games or mature anime-inspired adventures, you should keep a tab on this game, too.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD

Why You Should Play Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD?

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is a remake of a Wii game with updated high definition visuals.

The gameplay is fun and addicting. It centers around picking a monkey trapped inside of a ball and then rolling said monkey throughout a stage to get to the goal in as short of time as possible.

The trick? You do not control the monkey, you control the stage.

Yup.

Tilting the analog stick tilts the stage and propels the monkey in the direction the stage has been tilted to.

Sounds confusing, but it really is not after you wrap your head around it.

Maneuvering through stages that ramp up in difficulty as the game progresses is tons of fun.

Each stage is like a puzzle that has to be completed but with colorful graphics, cherry tunes, and banana’s lying around everywhere.

But what if you wanted to do something other than completing the over 100 plus stages?

Well, every Super Monkey Ball game comes packaged with extra content and this game is no exception.

Play 10 Party Games for up to 4 players for multiplayer fun, or try your hand at Time Attack mode for an extra challenge.

Whatever you pick, this is a great family friendly game in a long running franchise that is highly adored by gamers.

I started playing the Super Monkey Ball series when it debuted on the Nintendo GameCube.

And although I owned and played Banana Blitz on Wii, I am still really looking forward to revisiting this entry on the Nintendo Switch later this month.

Whether you played this game in the past, make sure to keep it on your radar.

Resident Evil 5 and 6

Why You Should Play Resident Evil 5 and 6?

Resident Evil 5 and 6 are THE games you are looking for if you want to celebrate horror games in October.

These two games are fantastic single player, action oriented survival horror games with tons of content.

I played through Resident Evil 5 many times across various platforms and I have also played through a bit of Resident Evil 6.

Each game revolves around one or more playable characters encountering infected enemies that include zombies and deadly zombie-like foes.

The action oriented Resident Evil titles of 5 and 6 rely less on horror and suspense and more on combat than previous entries in the series.

Gameplay revolves around rationing health packs, ammo, and items in order to get from one location to another as enemies pour out from all different locations.

If you are looking for a fun, thrilling adventure game with supernatural and horror themes,  you came to the right place.

Also, both games include cooperative play which means us players will be able to fend off the hoard of undead with a friend or more.

Each game also comes with a ton of extra content which includes previously released downloadable content, modes, and costumes.

Resident Evil is one of my favorite franchises of all time, and I am glad to finally see these two titles make their way to a Nintendo system.

I will definitely be picking up the two classics as soon as possible. If you can only get one, I would highly suggest getting Resident Evil 5 first.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

Why You Should Play Luigi’s Mansion 3?

Lastly, we come to the heaviest hitter of the month and a game with a comical sense of horror, Luigi’s Mansion 3.

Finally!

We have another full featured, home console Luigi’s Mansion game.

This series plops Mario’s green-clad timid younger brother into a haunted location and forces him to adventure through the game world fighting ghosts and collecting items in order to search for his missing brother and friends.

Specifically, Luigi’s Mansion 3 takes place in a haunted hotel with many floors, each distinct and with its own characteristics.

Imagine each floor as its own unique world when compared to other Mario games: one floor may be Egyptian desert themed while another looks like a disco club.

Traversing the haunted mansion will never get boring as new puzzles, visual themes, and enemies await the players every move.

I, for one, am super excited for this game.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing the first iteration on the Nintendo GameCube years ago when it launched.

I still have fond memories playing that game alongside my brothers, knocking on walls, quivery through halls, and sucking up ghosts.

Thankfully, this game also includes a couple of multiplayer modes for up to 8 players for those with family and friends.

With that said, I cannot wait to jump into this third game to cap off a monumental month of games and celebrate the spookiest month that is October in style.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a huge Nintendo Switch title that is just waiting to be played by those who want something horror themed but is much more comical and family friendly in tone.

Why Should Play Just Dance 2020?

I am going to be honest with you: I enjoy Just Dance games.

I have enjoyed playing the series with my family, spouse, and niece since Just Dance 2 and 3 released for the Wii so many years ago.

Therefore, I am happy to see a new game in the popular franchise releasing for a new generation of dancers.

Just Dance 2020 includes 40 songs to dance to from a variety of musical artists, spanning many genres.

The track list includes songs from Lil Nas and Ariana Grande among many others.

Players who want more than just the 40 included tracks can also subscribe to Just Dance Unlimited, a subscription service that grants access to over 500 additional songs.

That’s a lot of dancing!

Dance alone or with a party of friends and check out a variety modes including a children-friendly mode that limits the songs to kid friendly tracks.

The dancing won’t stop when in Just Dance 2020 is released this month.

A new entry in the popular Mario and Sonic Olympic Games is coming out this month, and it looks exciting.

I played a bit of the Mario and Sonic Winter Olympic Games on the Wii U, and I am happy to see the new features this game adds.

I also know that this series has a lot of passionate fans that feel the same way.

Mario and Sonic Tokyo 2020 includes over 30 games based on classic Olympic events for single and multiplayer fun.

Events players can find included are surfing, skateboarding, karate, judo, boxing, gymnastics, football, track and field, and many more.

Even better?

This game not only includes colorful, 3D iterations of classic Summer Events, but this game also includes retro style games to play.

That’s right: Mario and Sonic Tokyo 2020 comes with 10 games that are played out in 2D with a retro art style.  Totally awesome!

This game supports single, multiplayer, local, and online play. Button controls and motion controls–alongside a variety of other controller methods–are supported.

If you enjoy collecting monsters, battling other monsters, and embarking on an epic quest, this game is for you.

Pokémon Sword and Shield introduces a new region where professional battling and leagues are common along with a host of new places to visit and new Pokémon to see and capture.

The game’s stand out mechanic is called Dynamax.

This is a form of battle that includes gigantic Pokémon duking it out.

Standard battles are, of course, included in this game as well.

Raid battles are also included alongside new legendary Pokémon and advanced character customization options to help the player customize the character to the player’s liking.
