Wally here, and I finally beat Pokemon Sword 5 years after the game released on Nintendo Switch in November 2019.

Why It Took Me So Long To Start Playing Pokemon Sword

Often, I find that life gets in the way of playing my stack of must-play games and a tremendous amount of stellar games also battle for my limited time and attention.

That’s why it took me so long to start playing Pokemon Sword.

Why I Started Playing Pokemon Sword In 2024

Nintendo shutting down Nintendo 3DS online communications on April 8, 2024 spurred me to start playing my Nintendo Switch Pokemon games.

After all, I still needed to transfer my 890+ Pokemon critters from my copy of Pokemon Ultra Sun on Nintendo 3DS to my Nintendo Switch Pokemon games.

And although Nintendo confirmed Pokemon transfer will remain possible after April 8th, the company also stated the ability to do so may end in the future.

I decided to be safe rather than sorry.

So, I started playing the Nintendo Switch Pokemon games in release date order, starting with Pokemon Sword.

What I Thought About Pokemon Sword

Overall, I enjoyed Pokemon Sword and beat it in 25 hours.

It’s a fun and enjoyable role playing game that reminded me how much I enjoyed Pokemon’s core gameplay of catching, training, and battling monsters.

The game’s story and sports-team theme pleased me; although, I didn’t find the game’s mixture of realistic and anime art styles to be as pleasing.

Pokemon Sword felt like the exact length it needed to be

The game was very accessible and easy to play, and I never became confused as to where to go or what to do next. I really enjoyed that.

Furthermore, Pokemon Sword felt like the exact length it needed to be. I beat it in 25 hours and put the controller down right after the credits ended without remorse.

I could have caught all the Pokemon or explored more of the world I might have missed, but I felt comfortable and fulfilled concerning my time with the game.

I really enjoyed my time with Pokemon Sword on Nintendo Switch, and it felt like a nice first main series entry on Nintendo’s hybrid console.
