How To Change The Language In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo Switch)
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s language settings allows players to adjust the text and voice language used in the game.
Changing the language only takes a few moments and is rather easy to accomplish once you know what you’re doing.
Important things to note about changing this Super Smash Bros. Ultimate setting:
- text used in the game will be changed to the selected language
- voice used in the game will be changed to the selected language
- changing the game’s language is not permanent
- selected language can be changed whenever you want
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Make sure your Nintendo Switch and controller batteries are charged. This will prevent your controller or console from shutting off.

1) Access Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Main Menu

Load Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s main menu by simply starting the game.
2) Load The Secondary Settings Pane By Pressing ZR

Press the ZR button (default controls) or navigate to the right of the screen with analog inputs/directional button inputs.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s secondary settings menu will appear on screen.
3) Select “Options” From The List Of Menu Choices

Navigate down to the Options menu and select it.
Press the confirm button (A button by default) to be taken to the Options screen.
4) Select “Language” Category

Use the directional buttons or the (left) analog stick to select Language from the list of categories.
Press the confirm button to be taken to the Language settings screen.
5) Choose Your Language

Choose your preferred language from those listed on-screen.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supports 11 different languages:
- Dutch
- English
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean
- Russian
- Simplified Chinese
- Spanish
- Traditional Chinese

Highlight your preferred language with the (left) analog stick or directional buttons.
Press the confirm button to navigate to a language selection confirmation screen.
6) Select “Yes” To Confirm

A prompt will appear on-screen asking whether you intend to change the display language.
Additionally, changing the game’s language requires the software to restart.
Highlight the Yes option with the (left) analog stick or directional button.
Select No if you do not want to change your language.
Press the confirm button to change the game’s language.
The game will restart.
7) Wait For The Game To Restart

The game will close and restart in order to apply the display language change.
Select the Nintendo Switch profile you want to play as when prompted.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will reload with text and voices in the newly selected language.
8) Play The Game With Your New Setting

Enjoy playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with your new language settings.
